You can't have a Ponyworld & a series of stories there without first introducing the language, history & character relationships. So to begin with, here is my Ponyworld Glossary:-
Pony terminology has evolved somewhat from the terms like “Happy Hooves” & “Merry Manes” we remember from the MLP comics of the 1980s. Nowadays such terms, though still included, are only used by the younger Ponies. Nowadays a whole glossary of terms exists, from sayings & expressions all the way to Pony Swearing! And of course in our Ponyworld you may not recognise all the names of the places, so the ones that aren’t of Custom Buildings we’ve included here. The list is open as we learn more Pony words & phrases. There are some we won’t bother with, like “jumping in with all four hooves” is obviously the Pony version of “jumping in with both feet”, but less obvious ones like “Chewing The Bit” (below) are included.
SWEARING SECTION:-
Fakie - Very rude, used more as a swear word than to refer to NHPs.
Frizz/ing /ed - Very rude, referring to the mess a Pony’s hair can get in
Smooze - Very rude, referring to the mould that grows on some Ponies
Bait - Rude, referring to a poor condition Pony
Marker - Rude, referring to the pens that leave permanent stains on Ponies
By The Human - Quite rude, blasphemous, referring to the Owner of Ponies
Hasbro - Quite rude, blasphemous, referring to the Creator of Ponies
Derpy - Quite rude term for a learning disability, mostly among G4s
Frazzled Flight Feathers - Quite rude, used by winged Ponies & Friends to express frustration or shock
Hackmane - Quite rude, referring to the bad haircuts on some Ponies, implies lack of standards
Pooptail - Quite rude, usually used by younger Ponies as an expression of frustration
Pussyhair - Quite rude, implies stupidity in all Ponies with fading pink hair
Display Case - Slightly rude, referring to some Ponies being specially stored, implies snobbishness
Phony - Slightly rude, a more common term for NHPs
Threadhair - Slightly rude, said about a depressed Pony, referring to loss of plugs
Oh My Hoofmarks - Not so rude, used by Ponies who don’t like to swear, like Oh My Heavens
Faust’s Fingers - G4 Pony exclamation, based on Lauren Faust, their creator
Frayed Flocking - So-Soft Pony exclamation of frustration, referring to flocking loss.
Rubbed Rumpmarks - General exclamation of frustration, also the Pony name of B###ard Brag the card game
Trot off/ Trot to… - Go away, can vary in rudeness depending on where the Pony is told to trot to
Happy Hooves - Used by younger Ponies when pleased
Heavy Hooves - Used by younger Ponies when they’re struggling
Hungry Hooves - Used by younger Ponies when they smell good food
Merry Manes - Used by younger Ponies when excited

Troubled Tails - Used by younger Ponies when worried or upset

SPECIES, PLACES & ORGANISATIONS:-
Doll Person - Term for Evelyn, Barbie-sized Dolls, Strawberry Shortcake-sized Dolls & Megan & Molly
Factory - Term for a Pony who isn’t a Custom
Friend - Term for Care Bears, Glo Friends, Wuzzles, Fairy Tails, Keypers & other Non-Ponies
Hasbronian - Term for all Ponies who are MLP
Non-Hasbronian Pony - (NHP) The politically correct term for Ponies who aren’t MLP or Friends
Plushian - Term for what the Human calls “soft toys”
UTH - Used To Have, a group of Ponies & Friends who grew up with the Human
The Donkey - Pony equivalent of Jesus, referring to the Donkey who carried Him to Jerusalem
Aquastrian Sea - Sea located to the south of the Straits, so named by the G4s
Bridle Rise - Hilly area above Clopton, above the Ponyworld Mines; also the hamlet in the valley
Cantering Straits - Channel separating Sandtail Harbour from Butterfly Island
Cascade Falls - Waterfall flowing down Bridle Rise into Clopton, part of the upper Tress
Clopton - Capital city of Ponyworld
Cloud City - Training “grounds” of Pegasus Flight, although it’s actually high in the air
Curly Locks Falls - Waterfall flowing from Divot Lake to the lower Tress
Customalia - Where Customs who are dreamed up by the Human come from, & are flown from to reach Clopton Airport
Divot Lake - Largest lake in Ponyworld
Feather Bower - Field between Clopton & Bridle Rise, located below Cloud City, hence the feathers
Fetlock Fields - Green area on the outskirts of Clopton, often used for shows, festivals & picnics
Hasbronia - Pony universe/ Ponyworld by the dictates of Hasbro
Mail Island - Where Factory Ponies arrive before being flown on to Clopton Airport
Plushia - Wildlands to the west of Ponyworld, home to the Plushians
Saddleton - Country village near Clopton, hosting the Saddleton Farmers’ Market
Sandtail - Coastal village near Clopton, where the Sunshine Ponies for example live
Sprinkles Falls - Small waterfall flowing from the upper Tress to Divot Lake
Tress - River running through Ponyworld
Wavymane Sea - Sea located to the north of the Straits
Hoofprint - Weekly publication containing all Ponyworld’s events
Horn Society - Less disciplined than PF, but helps all horned Ponies hone their skills & magic
Mane Attraction - Social Networking site in Ponyworld
Pegasus Flight - Military “wing” of Ponyworld, to which every winged Pony automatically belongs
Ponyworld Council - Weekly meeting where important decisions that affect Ponyworld are discussed
TERMS & PHRASES:-
Adjusting The Harness Of - Prying into the affairs/ business of. Adjust only your own harness – mind your own
Barretted Up/ Bowtied Up - Looking her/ his best, like for a ball
Bet Your Rumpmarks - To be certain of something beyond any doubt
Braided Up - Everything out of the way, ready for work/ clean & tidy/ sorted out
Broken Out - How a Pony refers to her package being opened, something only recalled by Ponies broken out in Ponyworlds with very strong Human belief. All Ponies broken out in our Ponyworld remember it, due to our Human’s belief in us being very strong indeed!
Chewing The Bit - Equivalent to Beating About The Bush, not getting to the point
Chewing The Cud - Thinking something over for a while, eg “I’ll need to chew the cud on that…”
Closet - NEVER means cupboard/ wardrobe!!! ALWAYS means Pony lavatory!!!
Curled, Crimped & Braided - Overdressed, overdone, made too much effort to please
Dogfear - Extreme terror, referring to some Ponies being chewed by dogs
Eat My Mane - Expression of disbelief eg “I could eat my mane” or “if you do that I’ll eat my mane”
Forehoof - Either one of a Pony’s front two hooves, also used as hands
Got Her Blinkers On - Fully focussed, concentrating, not to be distracted
Hasbronian History - A Pony’s past according to Hasbro. Includes foalhood, parentage, ponyality & so on
Hay & Byre - The simple things, the basics (She’s a hay & byre filly – she prefers the simple things)
Held By The Reins - Tied down by work, also, Get The Reins Off – take a break
Her Own Pasture - Her own space, breathing room, me-time, a break from the world.
High Hoof - Pony equivalent of high five, or thumbs up, or a Facebook Like
Hold Your Hooves - Used where we would say Hold Your Horses, meaning be patient
Hoof Feathers - Tufts of hair curling round a Pony’s hooves, like on the G2s or the Boys
Hoofal(-ly) - Manual(-ly), without the aid of machinery or computers eg landing hoofally
Human History - A record of all Humans who have owned the Pony since she was broken out
Mane-Ribboned Up - All smartened up
Muzzle In The Nosebag - Blinded to the truth, unable to see the reality. Also: get your muzzle out of the nosebag – wake up & smell the coffee.
Muzzle It - Shut up!!!
Ponial - Pony equivalent of Personal, also Ponially – Personally
Ponily - Pony equivalent of Humanly
Ponyality - Pony personality
Quad Of Shoes/ Slippers - Used as Ponies have four hooves, so need four of everything
Rein It In - Calm down/ slow down/ pull yourself together
Remove Your Head To Change Your Mane - Referring to Customisation, means it’s hard to alter some Ponyality flaws
Saddled & Bridled - Fully prepared, all packed up for a journey, ready to face what’s coming
Settled To Canter - Set to work, in the habit. At Your Own Canter – at your own pace. Run Out Of Canter – fizzled out/ run out of steam.
Shake Your Mane - Let loose, go crazy, have fun
Some/Any/No/Everypony - Pony equivalent of some/any/no/everyone, some/any/no/everybody is more general
Sororal - Fraternal. With the Pony emphasis on the female, words are changed accordingly
Tailhook - For hooking a tail on when using the closet
Tail-Twirling(-ly) - Ecstatic(-ally), referring to the Happy Tails & Dance & Prance Ponies
Tailwhipped - Harassed, hen-pecked, nagged at (Tailwhipping – Telling Off)
Take The Reins/ At The Reins - Take control of a situation, take charge/ in charge, responsible, chairing (a meeting)
Thick As A Brush & Grow Mane - Thick as thieves, referring to the extra thickness of said type’s mane.
Tie It In A Ribbon - Finish it off eg “There, that’s that all tied in a ribbon…”
Trot on - Keep going, go on, continue
Tugging The Bridle - Using unnecessary force to get something done
Unbraided - A total mess, referring to tails that aren’t plaited & get easily tangled as a result
Unreined Gallop - Full speed, too fast, extremely high speed, uncontrolled speed, unstoppable
Wear Her Rumpmark - Know how she feels, like Be In Her Shoes
Considering I first made up most of these terms before FIM, & several have actually been used in FIM or similar lines, eg bet your cutie in a GM Berrow book, or AJ talking about being handed the reins of the Apple Family reunion, it seems great minds think alike, fools seldom differ & Pony People all speak Pon-ese...
