Hi guys,
Since we're all either in the main hotel or in hotels that are close together, does anyone want to meet up for food on the Friday evening, or alternately find somewhere on Saturday morning (unlikely I know due to many of us doing stall setup) for pizza/breakfast/coffee/delete as appropriate?
I'm personally not looking for hordes of people, but meeting up with a few folks would be very lovely. I'll be in the Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel which is the 'not-the-venue-the-other-one' hotel about a ten minute walk away (says Google). I will quickly map up a list of places to eat within a short distance and post it to this thread for those that are interested. I'm going to be eating outside the hotel anyway because it's cheaper for me and my room-sharer to do so than to buy food in the hotel itself.
Places nearby:
Restaurant based:
Bella Italia
Unit 7 Atlantic Wharf Leisure Park, Hemmingway Road, Cardiff CF10 5JY
3.1 stars on Google, tends to be on the cheap/decent level of food as it's a chain.
Valentino's Closest Pizza place to the main venue
5 Windsor Place, Cardiff, South Glamorgan CF10 3BX - 029 2022 9697
4.2 stars on Google, another Pizza/Italian that isn't a chain.
Pizza Hut
3 Queen Street, Cardiff, South Glamorgan CF10 2AF - 029 2038 2291
3 stars on Google, but it's a Pizza Hut so you know what to expect. Appears to be in the shopping centre next to the station.
Pizza Express
29 High St, Castle, Cardiff CF10 1PU -029 2023 3091
3 stars on Google. On the pricier end of Pizza-chain-places but usually good and tends to have loyalty cards/deals.
Ank Marvinmore Next to the venue
Hallinans House 22 Newport Road, Cardiff, South Glamorgan CF24 0TD - 029 2049 4941
www.ank-marvin.co.uk/Ank_Marvin_Cardiff_Menus.html
Appears to be an anything-and-everything food place and supposedly it's next to the venue. Prices are either really, really good, or 'suspiciously cheap'. Can't find any reviews for it.
Coffee Shops:
Generically there's a shopping centre near the venue / around the station so finding these shouldn't be too much of an actual problem. Here are some of the main ones:
Coffee #1
Unit 1, The Aspect, 140 Queen Street, Cardiff CF10 2GP - 029 2037 1172
www.coffee1.co.uk/
Independant place, looks pretty nice, basically a straight line down the road next to the venue (past the rail station).
Starbucks
Unit 1, 125/139 Queen Street, Cardiff CF10 2BJ - 029 2037 3622
Same street/complex, it'a a Starbucks... Google has it as 3.9 stars. They don't pay tax or treat their employees very well, but the coffee is alright.
Other than that, there are Yet More Starbucks and a Costa within sight of that area, plus it's a shopping centre so there are bound to be noodle/muffin/sushi/etc places that I've missed off this list. If I get settled in the Hotel early enough I'll go on a scouting mission to the venue/for a wander to see what's around.
If anyone needs disabled access or specific facilities please PM me now so I know what to look out for.
