Thought I had better introduce myself.
I was mad on ponies as a child, looking back I must have had loads. No idea what happened to them.
For years I kind of forgot all about ponies, until I found a huge bundle in a a charity shop! G3s I think. Spent all day cleaning and shampooing, it was fab! : )
I would look them up on eBay, google images etc. never really thought of buying more in a serious way, more of a one day kinda way.
Until I saw a auction for Bowtie, baby Bowtie & pink carriage. I can vividly remember getting that set for Christmas!! Loved loved loved it. I probably paid way too much, but it still smelt the same as I remembered : )
Then I ended up collecting Care Bears (!?!). I've got lots of them now....so I started looking at ponies again.
Then, last Friday, an auction for Dream Castle. I really wanted that as a kid, it was close to me, so convinced myself to buy it.
My best friend then convinced me to buy the other 2 sets she had listed. Nursery & show stable.
Then the seller offered me a bundle of 40 ponies. After much debating, I did buy them too. A little disappointed, I have a lot of duplicates (4 cherry jubilees!!) but figured my daughter can play with the pen marked ones.
On the bright side, I've finally got a Majesty & a Applejack. A Blossom that needs a new tail, a couple of babies.
I know to all you serious collectors it might seem a bit....'unspecial' which, having looked at how many ponies you guys have I totally agree!!
But I figure, start small, find all the ponies I used to have, the ones I remember from the annuals, the ones who's names I know.
I've spent all week cleaning up blossom (pin mould) I'm hoping to get her a tail soon. I could probably finds better version quite cheap, but...I don't know. This pony will have been someone's favourite toy at one point. She deserves to be cared for. : )
So, that's me. Small collection, possibly quite boring. But I have lots of enthusiasm and huge admiration for all your collections (just WOW!)
I'm thrilled to be a member, hope to pick your brains on things, and just to enjoy reading about your finds and restorations.
