Hello everypony!
After the last guy pulled out I will be taking care of MLP CCG realted activities at this years PonyCon, if you have any questions here is the thread to post them.
What is MLP CCG?
For those of you who are more traditional collectors let me briefly summarize. The My Little Pony Collectable Card Game is a relatively new MLP product that was launched just last year. Based on FIM, the game involves you playing 'friend' cards to the board in order to solve 'problem cards,' that are based on dilemmas that have been encountered by the characters in the show, before your opponent does. The game is immensely fun although it is a little more complex than you might expect, this being aimed squarely at the 'brony' demographic with a recommended age range of 10 and up to account for the detailed rules.
Free Demo Games
I will be in the gallery overlooking the sales floor between 10:00-11:30 on Saturday. There anypony is welcome to come, sit down and have a free demo game using cards I will provide. You can either play against me or another new person, either way I will be there to explain the game as you play so you can quickly get a grasp of the rules and decide if it's something you'd like to get into it, maybe even taking part in the tournament later in the day. In addition to playing you can also just come along to watch a demo game as I will be explaining as I go along. Hampshire Brony has also said he may pop along to host demo games if he can.
Tournament
This will start, again in the gallery room on Saturday, at 12:00 sharp, so if you want to take part I would aim to get there for 11:45 so you can be signed up and set up. All you need to bring with you is some cards, that you can buy from Mare Play during the day. The tournament will be what is known as a 'sealed deck' one. This mans that you cards must be unopened with you opening them when you are sat down at your table ready to play. You can also, if you wish, buy a maximum of 2-booster packs, again from Mare Play, that must also be sealed and only opened right before play.
A reason for deciding to go for a sealed deck using only the basic cards in a starter deck (plus 2 booster backs) is to make this event accessible for the layer of collectors who have never played before and would be utterly destroyed by a professional deck that has had hundreds of pounds put into it and is filled with rare cards.
The Tournament will last until 14:00, which should be enough time for players to each play 4 games at 25-minutes each. It will not be a knock out, instead the points you scored during each game (the game ends when a player scores 15-points or if the time runs out) will be added together with the winner of each game getting a 5-point bonus.
Prizes
Prizes have been generously provided by Mare Play, so you should thank him when you see him. EVERYPONY who enters the tournament will receive an applejack promo card,
The winner will get the Derpy playmate!
