I, along with many others, only became interested in MLP following the arrival of G4, and as that fandom grew there was a bit of a surge in terms of conventions and similar meets.
I was quite surprised to learn that UK Ponycon actually predates the creation of G4 by about seven years. I gather it began as more of a collector's meet for the more serious collectors of the toys and merchandise from the previous generations of the cartoon.
The 'G1 for Bronies, G4 for Oldies' panel got me thinking, and although I can't speak for anyone else, I for one would very interested to see a panel next year talking about the history of Ponycon itself, from how it started and how much it has changed over the years, particularly since the birth of G4 and the Brony fandom, how the injection of that (I would imagine) more boisterous element was received and how two groups that I expect were fairly distinct despite having so much in common came together to create an event that catered so well for everyone.
Maybe I have it all wrong, maybe the people that have been fans of the franchise since the beginning were never so different from the people that only discovered it since 2010, but even if that if that is the case, I think it would be good to see the evolution of Ponycon charted at the event itself.
PonyCon has evolved overtime and G4 definitely spiced things up! Each PonyCon is a learning curve as there is a real variety of people PonyCon aims to cater for, from G1 to G4 collectors, families and bronies
