Hi ponies,
I was wondering if any of you have ever thought about joining the PonyCon committee or at least wondered what it was like to be a committee member?
Here is pkw's story ;D
The first convention ~ I was still new to the world of ponies and had not long being customizing Victoria (who started UK PonyCon) asked if I would run customizing work shops and would I judge the customs competitions so I agreed. I also did the first custom fundraising, where I made a set of custom ponies based on the HAPPA horses as HAPPA was the charity of the year.
My second convention ~ this year sillysunshine, Phil (sillysunshine's then boyfriend) and myself co-ran the convention. Everything was a little short notice and we had only THREE months to find a venue, raise £3000 and organize the three days (the convention ran over three days!) sillysunshine, Phil and myself divided all the tasks up and we got it all done. I spent most of my evenings and days off fundraising, emailing, selling tickets, arranging things with the venue as well as modding the forum. I will not say it was easy as it had its ups and downs and stresses and I had to do things I didn't like (press! live radio!) but over all it was a very rewarding experience.
My third convention onwards ~ I have had a much more back seat roll. As you know I moderate the forum here I also arrange the custom fundraising which is now a regular fundraiser for the PonyCon. I am also on hand if the committee ever need an extra helping hand.
Being part of PonyCon is very rewarding ~ it is like organizing a big party and it is the most fantastic thing to see people having a great time and even more fantastic to know you have also helped a charity. I still feel that it was a big achievement in my life to co-run the UK PonyCon in 2005 and I have it with pride on my CV.
