This isn't the announcement on the 2017 PonyCon date or location but please bear with us; details are coming soon.
We've been very lucky the past couple of years to have found our venues very quickly, setting expectations that the convention is always announced early on. We understand that it is frustrating to be kept waiting for something when you're so excited about it and you just really need to know so you can get planning. We're all planners (that's why we're on the committee!) so we know how you feel, honestly.
Each year it is the same and we won't announce the date or location until we have a solid contract in place with the venue; we can't risk telling you all and then something changing. What if we had to go to plan B, after people had already booked accommodation, for example? We don't want to put anybody in that position. It takes a considerable amount of time to find suitable venues in the first instance and don't forget that we're looking at venues across four countries, which is amazing when you think about it. Our requirements each year are becoming more complex; more space, closer accommodation, more rooms, places to eat, city centre.. it's quite the tough shopping list!
Additionally this year there has been a behind-the-scenes change in the way PonyCon is administered. Thanks to the support of you all, we've grown so successful that we had to set up a limited company, which is called UKPC Events Ltd. We don't think that you'll notice anything different, and you still have the same amazing committee working hard to make PonyCon 2017 the best that it can be. Setting this company up took time and although it needed to be done this has caused a delay in us being able to progress with our chosen venue.
Lastly, please remember that we do this voluntarily and unpaid alongside our "day jobs" whatever those may be. This in itself can slow us down even though we'd much rather be doing PonyCon! We'd really appreciate your patience whilst we work hard to organise a fantastic PonyCon 2017. We love you guys, but no matter how many guesses are thrown out there, we can't announce until we're ready
Thank you all for sticking with us not much longer now.
